“We are taking on heavy losses, sire.” Lead Huntress of the Kingdom offered the Pride’s master a detailed description of the engagement. The King and Queen both seemed apathetic to her concerns—the king more so than the queen.

“The devices given to us by the prey ally are functioning according to promise and plan, sire.” One of the pride elders added. “The prey cannot leave this system with their unexplainable teleportations.”

“Any further success discovering this unexplainable technology, Elder?” the Queen asked him calmly.

“Not as of yet, your majesty, but it is clear the devices delivered by the Ally are of the same design. Once this system has rid us of the prey, the elders ask to create a team with primary goal of studying them. We would also like to recapture one of our Hunterships that the prey have reconfigured with hopes of unlocking how they turn them into the expanding spheres of death.”

“Yes,” the queen agreed. “The rumors were not false about these prey. They are elusive, formidable, and more advanced in technology than we had been led to believe.”

“Your majesties, might I suggest this ship to recapture,” the Lead Huntress said displaying a three-dimensional visual of the first ship lost in the engagement. “This Huntership has already been reconfigured and has fired the unexplainable expanding sphere of death. They have taken countless others and appear to be in the process of reconfiguring them as well. It is only a matter of time before they are using them as superweapons too. There are likely still pockets of resistance hidden on these Hunterships and interestingly enough it appears as though the prey are protecting that first Huntership in particular more than the others. It is of high suspicion that the prey our ally warned us of is on that ship.”

“The Elders agree as well, your majesties. There has been a significant increase in Warrior losses since that Huntership became offensive for the prey. Battle analysis would suggest that, while it is unclear why and how, the prey seem to be targeting our vessels at the optimal times for most infliction of damage. We do not suggest toying with this prey much longer, sires.”

“The Hunters and Warriors agree, sires,” the Lead Huntress added. “We should not continue to play with our food as it might slip away before we are able to eat it.”

The queen stood straight from her dais and in a red and green blur of light had traversed the ten meters between them and her talons were around the neck of the Lead Huntress. Black and grey tendrils wriggled outward from the queen’s backplates and entangled themselves around the subservient alien. The tendrils tightened to the point that the Lead Huntress’ eyes glowed red and she gasped for air.

“Do not pretend to tell your masters what we should or should not do! I should separate your body and soul for such insubordinate behavior!” The queen said into the creature’s ear hole with a booming screeching voice.
